For his third album as a singer-songwriter, Fink continues to deal in an intimate, confessional way of writing. It suits his roughened voice perfectly to have the minimum of guitar accompaniment, and here the bass is beefed up a bit more, betraying his alter ego as Sideshow. Once again it works really well, and songs like ‘If I Had A Million’ stay in the mind long after they’ve finished. Now that he’s established himself in this form it’s possible to see his confidence as a songwriter growing, and with good reason – these are fine, very personal pieces of work, that take the listener into a closed room with their no nonsense emotions. If you haven’t seen him live yet then do, and then you’ll see what the fuss is all about.
