OCTOGEN

Since hitching up with Percy x as the Separatists and unleashing his own outings as Octogen Marco Bernardi has effortlessly established himself as a deadly purveyor of soulful purest techno with a direct line to the Detroit greats. His second album refines his sound further as a stunning mix of old school pre-techno electro [the Model 500-tinged ‘Syphxomite’] and cutting edge Motor City electric storms [the Mayday strings and and bottomless UR pads of ‘Saturn Sun’]. But, thanks to his vivid visions and boundless feel for the energy and melodic slipstreams, Marco’s sound now emerges as strictly Octogen, something to be pretty much in awe of. ‘Sunset Over Tao’ is already making it onto chillout albums with its gorgeous flow but outings like the leaping muck trumpet of ‘The Emperors Apprentice’ or springy Motor City momentum of ‘The Journeyman’ are equally as capable of soiling the floor with minimal firepower. Fantastic follow-through.
