Sonat Kollektiv have really struck gold with the debut album of Paskal & Urban Absolutes – a new act to you and me, maybe, but simply a fusion of Paskal (Berlin’s Alexander Kastner) and Urban Absolutes (Düsseldorf’s Adrian Hoffmann). Together they make music that can be interpreted as a kind of slower disco/house hybrid, but one that is put together with absolute assurance and quality. It’s also extremely sultry, because some of the vocalists chosen here make outstanding contributions. Paul Randolph turns in a smoky vocal for ‘Here Again’, while Kasar lends a spiritual, subtly uplifting quality to ‘Hold Your Head Up’. Meanwhile on the instrumental front ‘Euphoria’ gives a nice, warm Balearic feeling, and ‘Melancholia’ enjoys a languid stretch, but ’Bits Of Me’ is even better, with a real depth to the vocal and a solid, four to the floor beat. It’s the beats and the soulful dressing that elevate this album from simply very good to a must-buy. You won’t regret it if you do.
