Fans of Riccardo Villalobos and Pantha Du Prince are advised to stop off here and listen to Pier Bucci, for while his music has elements of those two producers, there is a more vocal strand that works really well, bringing an essentially human element to the machine based techno form. ‘Canto Libre’ is especially good in this respect, with its strange, enchanting vocal, while ‘Eternelle’ works a similar magic, only at a much slower speed. ‘Papa Guede’, meanwhile, invokes some welcome twisted funk, but final track ‘For Free’ spoils things a bit by jolting us into an English speaking down tempo track. Bucci knows what he’s doing with some well crafted percussion and instrumentation, bringing some Latin rhythm into the mix, and overall it makes for a finely judged piece of work.
