Oslo’s Prins Thomas and Hans-Peter Lindstrom kickstarted the whole space disco movement with their self-titled debut album for Belgium’s mighty Eskimo label, Prins continuing the momentum by running his own Full Pupp imprint with an all-Norwegian roster. This is the label’s first compilation featuring rare gems like his own luxurious ‘Goettsching’ and Todd Terje’s stunning ‘Italian Stallion’ from the highly-sought ‘Eurodans’ EP plus previously-unreleased material and new edits. While CD-2 collects ten tracks, CD-1 is a stellar selection mixed by Prins featuring names like Blackbelt Andersen, Magnus International, Diskjokke, Kalle Magnus & Daniel, Ytre Rymden Dansskola and the veteran Mental Overdrive whose treatments of the genre’s slow, Balearic-flavoured cosmic funk groove are repeatedly doused in euphoric washes of spacey effects, Moroderesque melodies, acid flourishes and soaring melodies, particularly effective when drenched in strings as on Terje’s gorgeous Glittertind. It really doesn’t come much better than this as terrestrial dance forms like house, disco and electro-boogie are used as launch-pads then left on the ground as the music shoots for the stars and beyond making for one of the classiest, most enjoyable and emotionally butt-shaking collections to appear this year, marking Norway as the home of a new disco explosion!
