SHITDISCO
KINGDOM OF FEAR
FIERCE PANDA

Ahh, those Glasgow art schools.  Arguably the most fertile breeding ground for early 80’s informed punk disco-not-disco outside of New York.  Yes, Shitdisco are a four piece band and yes, they met at art school in Glasgow.  Still, they’re more Gang Of Four than Fire Engines, throwing angular shapes and sounds of varying sizes that manage to fuse itchy guitars, basic electronic wizardry and frenetic drums (Kieron Pepper – one-time live drummer for The Prodigy – helped out on a couple of tracks).  On tracks like “72 Virgins”, “OK”, “Another” and “I Know Kung Fu”, it all comes together like finely sculpted pop symmetry, underpinning Joel, Joe & Jan’s vocals perfectly, ultimately packing more fun, verve and jumpy vibrancy than ten songs should legally contain.  The only minor point is that it feels more like a collection of singles primed to go rather than a full artist album, but when they’re as good as this, it’s just splitting hairs really.  Shitdisco – actually pretty damn good.
