Fin Greenall divides his time neatly between his singer/songwriter Ninja persona Fink and his dub-house outfit Sideshow. In the last few years he’s churned out a lot of quality stuff under the latter imprint, though the ‘Admit One’ album raises the bar still further. It’s a lot more dubby than previous offerings, and has a real freedom of expression. This would seem to be because he tried to get live recordings as far as possible, to go with a few samples and nods to older tracks here and there. Even references to Kraftwerk’s ‘The Model’ get in! Tina Grace adds some lovely vocals to ‘Bottletop Dub’, while Paul St. Hilaire’s vocal on ‘If Alone’ reminds you of Horace Andy and his contributions to Massive Attack – that good. A smoky atmosphere runs throughout, helped by sensitive use of live instruments, strings and soft yet well defined rhythms. An outstanding after-hours album, and further proof of Greenall’s criminally underrated production talent.
