That ‘Supersonic Revelation’ has already received rave reviews from Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier and Phil Asher tells you something – Simbad is a name to keep an eye on if you haven’t checked him already. He specialises in unusual rhythms that always have a strong element of funk to them, whether they’re found in deeper house or a more broken up style. The multitude of guests, including Robert Owens on ‘Someone 4 Me’, bring the album even more variety, though throughout the influence of Prince is distantly visible. Fresh as a daisy, this is a stimulating listen.
