Some on-line cospiracy theories would have it that this is the work of one Richard D James, he of the rather well known Aphex Twin moniker. The press info sidesteps this and tells us that The Tuss are a duo; are from Cornwall; like Chicago house veteran Lil “French Kiss” Louis quite a bit; and were discovered via the omnipresent MySpace. Stylistically, it’s classic Rephlex styled jump-up disco-electro, albeit electro with ADD. Unable to decide which idea it wants to explore first, they all go off together, sometimes along the same path,  other times in completely opposite stratospheres.  Lesser labels might not be indulged so much, but this is Rephlex, and as ever, repeat listens and patience reap their own rewards, allowing reference points from electronic music of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s to filter through gracefully, then splicing them to melted 808’s, 303’s, and Amen breaks. There are also heaps of those heart-stoppingly beautiful melody lines that a certain ..er.. duo has a knack for producing.  The Tuss or otherwise, it’s not particularly new musically speaking, but it is fucking good, and will do no harm to the label’s reputation.
