Lie down and float to the ceiling like the cartoon dog who’s just raided the
biscuit tin as the veteran producer uncurls one of his best yet. Yokota’s
music has long transcended categories like techno as he constantly forges
onwards, exploring the endless possibilities of electronic music with
often-beautiful results, as well as continuing his own voyage of
self-discovery. This album harks back to more ambient-flavoured albums like
Grinning Cat, the opening ‘For The Other Self Who Is Far Away That I Can Not
Reach’ constructing eloquent piano and string melodies before the deep
techno of ‘A Slowly Fainting Memory Of Love And Respect, And Hatred’. Long
titles announcing twelve of the most provocative, calming and other-worldly
endeavours you’ll encounter this year. ‘A Song Produced While Floating Alone
On Christmas Day’ prodded the thought that this is indeed the perfect
seasonal companion! Absolute quality.
