Defected have always been reliable guides to Ibiza, but this is easily one of their best summer albums. The recruitment of Copyright to the turntables is the first masterstroke, while the second is a set of live Latin percussion delivered by Shovell – and done really well, complementing the music rather than making it his own solo gig. CD1 (‘El Dia’) gets us off to a sundrenched start with Dennis Ferrer, Ceballos & DJ Chus’ ‘Afrika’ and a couple of cracking DJ Gregory cuts, not to mention finishing off with Sandy Rivera’s outstanding Andy Daniell collaboration, ‘Whatever’. After a set of vocal house at its best, things toughen up for ‘El Noche’, the second CD bringing out John Dahlback’s remix of Julien Jabre’s ‘Vicious Circle’, Leventina’s ‘Night Shift’ and a skilful blend of a couple of Copyright accappellas and Shovell percussion. All this makes up a fascinating twist on the mix album, this – with results that never feel less than good.
