The Bamboos
Side-Stepper
Tru Thoughts

The breezy instrumental that kicks off ‘Side-Stepper’ is all you need to hear to confirm that this is going to be an uplifting album of funk. The Bamboos enjoy a raw sound through their instrumentals, throwing in a bit of Hammond organ and some brassy, Temptations-inspired licks, but really come to the fore when joined by vocalist Kylie Auldist, who contributes to three tracks. ‘Now That You Are Mine’ is especially good, and in the words of Ty, who adds his own distinctive tones to ‘Can’t Help Myself’, they’re “givin’ you the funk – everything’s funk”.
