Late Night Tales

The Cinematic Orchestra’s proudly eclectic selection of music doesn’t come much better than opening with Flying Lotus and then by introducing the late great Nike Drake. But don’t let that spook you as the gear soon shifts to jazzier, folk and then soulful climbs with choices emanating from luminaries such as Terry Callier, Burt Bacharach and even Tom Yorke, whose Black Swan sounds gloriously edgy in here. But just when you thought it was safe to come out they drop in Steve Reich’s infamous Electric Counterpoint III and follow it with Bjork’s Joga. So you get the picture. There’s not a dull moment to be had as this spits out surprises not least of all by Will Self’s own reading from The Happy Detective Part 3 which finishes matters off in a suitably striking fashion.
