Soma has always been plugged into a musical essence that runs a lot deeper than the latest laptop short cut, whether it be punk or primitive New York boogie explorations. The Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi series has been a great exercise in showcasing cutting edge electronic developments. This new substrata goes back to music’s wild roots as Andrew Weatherall displays some of the tunes which influenced his amazing Wrong Meeting album and get played at the club at the same name. It’s raw emotion and mania translated through guitars, saxes and primitive valve amps by names spanning from the 50s until now including Gene Vincent, Charlie Feathers, Johnny Burnette, Link Wray, the Cramps and delightful obscurities from Hipbone Slim &The Kneetremblers and Joe Boot & The Fabulous Winds. This timlessly enthralling rockabilly is laced with psychedelic stomp of the Strangeloves’ ‘I Want Candy’, T. Rex, Killing Joke, the Fall and even a Two Lone Swordsmen mix of Primal Scream’s  ‘Bloods’, closing with Weatherall’s own ‘Feathers’.
