THE FRANK POPP ENSEMBLE
ACE OF CLUBS

It’s very hard to believe The Frank Popp Ensemble are German, they sound as British as Lulu and St. Etienne. Influenced by Northern Soul, vintage R’n’B and a touch of psychedelic garage jazz rock, this lot certainly know how to party. We kick off with the new single ‘Love Is On Our Side’, a total feel good northern stomper, that’ll have you gliding across the floor in no time. ‘You’ve Been Gone To Long’ keeps on the shufflers rhythm and whips up a few spins with some lovely brass touches, followed by ‘Breakaway’, a top soul number with spot on diva action. The best title on the album is ‘Hip Teens Don’t Wear Blue Jeans’, and yep you got it, it’s just like the soundtrack to a dodgy B movie. ‘Hurry Up’ has got a rockabilly feel and leads us fittingly into a cover of The Crammps ‘Goo Goo Muck’. The Frank Popp Ensemble is good retro teen fun all the way.
