THE HEAVY
GREAT VENGEANCE AND FURIOUS FIRE
COUNTER

The Heavy are a four piece outfit from Bath, that sound more like they’re from a ghetto in the U.S. “Great Vengeance And Furious Fire” is The Heavy’s debut album, and it opens with their cracking single “That Kind Of Man”, blasting out like The Temptations having a funky psychedelic wig out with Curtis Mayfield & Jimmy Hendrix, at a 70’s pimp party in a basement on the wrong side of town. The low slung hip shaking groove of “Colleen” is up next, with crunching breaks and sleeze infused horn riffs, working a chorus to die for. “Set Me Free” is a head nodding, toe tapping funky strummer, and “Girl” comes over like Tricky in a good mood, on the pull & on the dancefloor. The overloaded “In The Morning” rocks the foundations with slamming beats and distorted rhythms, while “Bruk Pocket Lament” will give Portishead something to worry about. “Who Needs The Sunshine” brings “Great Vengeance And Furious Fire” to a dramatic melancholic close, complete with a creepy twist at the end. The Heavy have made one of the albums of the year.
