And so the big question is: have the Prodigy still got it? Well ‘Invaders Must Die’ offers a resounding smack in the teeth to anyone with the cheek to doubt their ability. It shows how far they’ve moved on in the two decades they’ve been making music, but that their core values remain – riffs that are sharp as razors, concrete-heavy beats and helium flavoured vocals. ‘Omen’ exploits all of this to the max – a call-to-arms vocal topping it off – while ‘Colours’ retreads their effective use of rock riffs. ‘Take Me To The Hospital’ is a no holds barred rave track, while in ‘Stand Up’ the band pull a rabbit out of the hat with a track that panders more to the big band hip hop of Adam F. It’s great to report the Prodigy are still ploughing new furrows, and this is a definite step up even from the underrated ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’ album. Now they’re back in the same groove, and back near the front of the field, the sky would seem to be the limit! Can’t wait for the next one already.
