For the last few years, Flesh Records boss Midnight Mike has been getting his mates [mostly female from disparate artistic and domestic backgrounds] round for a pissup and capturing those moments when old faves get treated to a rousing singalong. Except it’s not trusty howlalongs like the Rod Stewart songbook, more shockers by the likes of Throbbing Gristle, Roxy Music and even Tiny Tim’s demented take on ‘Tiptoe Through The Tulips’! Describing Elvis’s ‘All Shook Up’ rendered over a bossa nova beat or Devo’s ‘Mongoloid’ provided for your own home caterwauling doesn’t sound as entertaining as it is. But anyone who technos up Dire Straits has to be commended! A fun project in a world which needs as much fun as it can get and just right for certain Friday night moments.
