THE WHIP
TRASH
LAVOLTA

Lobbed kicking and screaming into the Electro section because it rides the time-honoured electro-clash bassline – which itself was hoisted from New Order, who come from Manchester, which is where The Whip – no relation to Cure-man Robert Smith and Bansees bassist Severin’s early 80s project – come from! This pair – Bruce Carter and Danny Saville – used to be in Nylon Pylon. Trash – not the New York Dolls song – is a dirty, bass-driven loper with shadowy vocals and vibrant synth topping. It was made in a dank basement under a red light and sounds like it [Compliment!]. The fact that there’s a Motor remix next is an exciting prospect and doesn’t disappointment as they carry out an acid house bombardment and bolster the groove in their inimitable chaos-causing style.
