Although lounge is the name, Thievery Corporation’s Eighteenth Street label has always looked to expand on its blueprint, and it’s pleasing to report Thunderball are adventurous in the cause. From sitars to exotic violin solos, this is an outfit willing to cast the net far and wide in search of an evocative melody or a syncopated rhythm or two. It works well, though occasionally there’s too much going on. That said, most of the tracks here are perfectly suited to a bar environment, with the uptempo numbers bound to do some damage on discerning dancefloors.
