The spirit of P-Funk is alive and humping in this latest exotic confection to erupt from the venerable loins of Acid Jazz, who can never be accused of sitting on their laurels. Former Soul Hooligan member Dave Jay, has appeared on many a session and soundtrack but now strikes out again in cahoots with Mark Dalton to make one of the year’s most arresting debut albums, choc full of slinky, hallucinogenic grooves with massive choruses [‘Mindbeam Parts 1&2’, ‘Killing Angelina’], racey electro-funk [‘[I Need A[ Freak For Armageddon’] and even more traditional Northern stomp [‘Got A Really Good Thing’]. T.T. most impress when they’re stretching into the lysergic cosmos, as on the slo-mo grind of ‘Niagra Falls’ and it’s heavenly vocal ensembling or the pure P of the dense ‘Who Says An Earth Band Can’t Play Nunk’ [part of a Junie Morrison tribute]. Tracks like ‘Love In The City’ show they can write mean songs too. Utterly recommended for anyone with an ounce of funk anywhere in their being.
