Just how good were TLC? Well when you consider that when they broke through there were hardly any girl groups blending urban R&B – and now we have countless – you get an idea of their pioneering influence. Not only that but they did some fantastic singles as well, with the low, husky tones of ‘Creep’ kicking them off on these shores in 1994, followed up with the sun-drenched ‘Waterfalls’ and, later, the fantastic ‘No Scrubs’. ‘Unpretty’ was around well before the Sugababes aped it with ‘Ugly’, while even the lower key songs like ‘Diggin’ On You’ are irresistible. This collection contains all that and more, including the earlier ‘Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg’. showing their early potential, plus the mandatory new stuff in ‘Come Get Some’. An essential retrospective.
