WORKING FOR A NUCLEAR FREE CITY
MELODIC

Working For A Nuclear Free City are a Manchester based outfit, that started life as a studio based project, when brothers Phil & Jon Kay got together with Gary McLure and made instrumental soundscapes, then two days before their first gig along came Ed Holme and the threesome became a foursome and the soundscapes became songs. Their self titled debut album has got some breathtaking moments, ‘The 224th Day’ rolls in like an unearthly fog on a calm sea, only to be sucked out of the atmosphere and replaced by the turbo charged techno influenced onslaught of ‘Troubled Son’. The bass led funky rhythms of ‘Dead Fingers Talking’ brings The Stone Roses to mind, and ‘Quiet Place’ lays soaring harmonies over atmospheric Doves like guitar riffs, while ‘Over’ and ‘Fallout’ will have Jason Pearce wishing he hadn‚t sacked his band. If Spiritualized Electric Mainline, TV On The Radio, 60‚s psychedelics and good grooves are your thing, then I can pretty much vouch that Working For A Nuclear Free City will also be your drug of choice.
