Aroop Roy – Talking Bout Life EP

We’ll be honest, despite being massive House of Disco fans Aroop Roy isn’t someone we knew too much about before this gem landed in our inbox. That ignorance has now evaporated. The title track is one nifty slab of feel-good disco, slowly building for a couple of minutes before dropping off into a breakdown where the filtering comes on all heady. It gives a wee hint that the unassuming beginning is actually the biggest false sense of security ever; getting progressively more frenetic, looping the talking about life vocal into a stuttering clusterfuck. It chaotically pulsates into dancefloor nirvana once the drop comes in, revealing a beautifully funky jazz driven groove. We took our tops off listening to it in the studio, you might need a RIOT squad policing the dancefloor when it’s served with Prosecco and Adriatic sunshine.

Across the rest of the EP ‘We together’ is a decent bit of shuffling afro flavoured house music, which would work well soothing a back room for a more laid back tour de force in house music. Then Brisa gets to grips with ‘Talking bout Life’ for a broken beat work out which adds space-age synths and skittering percussion to the original to take it a completely different direction, HOD showing their nous in appealing to a different audience. Another stonking release from one of disco’s greatest bunch of lads.
