BJØRN TORSKE – BYEN – SMALLTOWN SUPERSOUND

Bjørn Torske is an artist that probably doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for the part played in what we like to think of as cosmic disco. His close friends and musical colleagues include Prins Thomas, who he worked with as recently as last year, Todd Terje and Lindstrøm – and if you listen to the music you’ll pick up those links pretty quickly. This is sunshine music, very positive stuff often delivered with extremely danceable beats, such as the shuffling one that goes with ‘Chord Control’. The catchy riffs Torske employs, often delivered with dashes of humour, are closely aligned to Terje but maybe don’t quite carry the same punch, preferring on occasion to relax a bit nearer to the bar than the dancefloor. Don’t let that put you off though, because the chunky beat of tracks like ‘Gata’ confirm that Torske can still deliver a hip swinging moment with great ease. ‘Byen’ is carefree, extremely well written and guaranteed to leave you with a smile.
