MELODY’S ECHO CHAMBER – BON VOYAGE – DOMINO

The second album from Melody Prochet is a multilingual affair, the chanteuse switching effortlessly between French, English and Swedish – and the same could be said of the music too. As pop music it works really well, and there are sudden mood swings or stylistic changes within the longer song to keep the listener on their toes. ‘Cross My Heart’ is a great illustration of what she does best, a breezy pop song with twists and turns that adjust to the storyteller’s tale, while ‘Visions Of Someone Special, On A Wall Of Reflections’ is great, the breathy asides of the vocalist complemented by expansive synths. ‘Desert Horse’ has some quite abrupt changes of mood too, while ‘Quand Les Larmes D’un Ange Font Danser La Neige’ goes stellar with a flurry of rolling drums. As an alum ‘Bon Voyage’ takes a few listens to properly make its mark, but that’s only because there is a lot of good things going on. It deserves the investment.
