BLONDES – WARMTH (R&S)

The third album from New York duo Blondes is mesmerising. The pair work with some lovely analogue sounds, creating shimmering instrumental colours, deep textures and energetic loops. The likes of ‘OP Actual’ and ‘MRO’ show how comforting these sounds can be, but the urge to shake a leg is altogether too tempting. ‘Trust’, when it kicks in, carries quite a weighty punch, while the distortion levels get higher as the album moves on to ‘All You’ and ‘MRO’, giving the album a strong sense of progression. An excellent and often hypnotic piece of work.
