BULLION – LOOP THE LOOP – DEEK RECORDINGS

Bullion is Nathan Jenkins, a Londoner with a keen ear for instrumental colour – but also a knack for making good electronic pop music that turns out to be a good deal left of centre. ‘Loop The Loop’ is a clever record but at the same time it doesn’t try too hard to impress, which is evident especially in ‘FoYoC’ (‘Float On Your Own Cloud’), a breezy song that wraps up proceedings. Elsewhere we get to enjoy the exotic chill of ‘My Lar’, led by violin but also including some nice multi-layered vocals, or the greater urgency of ‘Never Is The Change’. With guests including Sampha, Sarah Anderson of Chrome Hoof, Nautic, Tom Skinner and Laura Groves, ‘Loop The Loop’ has plenty of interesting twists and turns, and proves to be an electronic album of colour, invention and subtle humour.
