Hamburg is a booming city when it comes to electronic music, and this intelligently crafted compilation gives us a real flavour of the talent in and around its waters. Perhaps the more obvious inclusions are the striking DJ Koze track ‘Blume der Nacht’, with its film noir piano leading to all sorts of weirdness, and Lawrence’s ‘Just Like Heaven’, with its rewarding deepness. In and around there are some real treasures, though, from the likes of Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Extrawelt’s hypnotic dub version of ‘My Stupid’ and Isolee’s ‘Törn’. A properly eclectic mix that unfolds naturally, leading from down tempo to some pretty uplifting house, with just the right amount of off kilter action along the way. If the series blossoms as this first instalment suggests it might, we’re in for a treat.
