HOSH is back with a brand new album that finds him, quite frankly, in the form of his life. Entitled Stories From Sa Talaia, it is a a free to download double album presented as a DJ mix that is made from all his own new and exclusive beats. He produced it at his home in Ibiza and it plays out like a perfectly coordinated DJ set.
It comes on his own new label fryhide, which will also releases the individual tunes from the album, and eventually music from others. Rather than a wholesale reinvention of his sound, the album is a smooth evolution that really makes a mark. It is emotive, deep and magically melodic and like the German’s long list of EPs on Diynamic, it really gets under your skin.
Starting with Part 1, the order of the day is a loose and wavy groove, silky synths and twinkling melodies. Vocals also colour the groove and they get gradually more direct and upright as things progress. Icy percussion and well crafted chords all add meat to the bones and carry you away into the night in a reflective mood.
The second part is more moody and complex, with rubbery drums rolling beneath lithe synths. Always well paced and well balanced, the moods get more dark and paranoid as the vocals add airs of mystery and the drums being to unravel. Towards the second half things get spaced out again so as to not get too amped up and it is all a well crafted trip that is coherent and cerebral. As such this might be HOSH’s finest moment yet.
