Acumen – Diagonal – (Thrill of It)

Acumen is on a roll at the moment; serving up hits on various labels, not least his own Time Has Changed. Here though he pops up on the always interesting The Thrill of It label with two new tracks that come complete with remixes from Mobilee and Cocoon duo Lee van Dowski and Dean Demanuele and Jules & Moss.

Up first is The Thrill of It, a bubbly, warm bit of tech house with a interesting vocal samples, a nimble bass stab and lots of nebulous melodies. It makes for a truly unique atmosphere that sounds like little else. The other original is Diagonal, a sombre bit of proggy tech with a classic vocal sample from The Sopranos theme tune as well as rising, harmonic melodies that really do glow. The Jules & Moss remix of the same track is a subtle rework that gets wired up with lots of space age synths and search light like sirens. Lastly, Lee van Dowski and Dean Demanuele remix Thrill of It into a sandy, textured bit of loopy tech with wooden hits, intriguing little melodic hooks and plenty of dancefloor clout. In summation, then, a fine EP.
