Been itching to review this for a while now as the words Felix ‘Da Housecat’, Aphrohead and Crosstown Rebels fit neatly into one beautiful package. Ahead of a forthcoming album is this single which demonstrates just why the artist has remained a force to be reckoned with after all these years. ‘Let’s Prance’ is of course a devilishly funky groove that isn’t afraid to get playful with its punchy drum heavy arrangement, odd voices and infectious bassline. Art Department & BLUD provide an excellent remix reworking the elements into something altogether more pounding, while Radio Slave and Thomas Gandey’s Last Communication version channels Detroit care off striking piano hits and feverish percussion. Finally Christopher Trücher (the album’s co-producer) adds moodier, heavy duty low-end theory into the equation and if anything his tough Dub proves to be one the releases highlights.
