Ben Pearce – What I Might Do – (MTA Records)

In one word, excellent. Ben Pearce does that very difficult thing of creating music which feels all at once deeply soulful, yet provocative and forward thinking. To begin with these uniquely impressive vocals resonate with an eerie sense of melody and by the end of the second minute, you’re hooked. The music is electronic, emotive, and tastefully organic, combining invigorating drums and haunting synth lines that completely capture your attention. Remixes come from Harry Wolfman who adds an old-school flavour while retaining the essence of the vocal, Adam Shelton who adds flashes of Acid to his even deeper take, and PBR Streetgang’s Bonar Bradberry who competes for the title with the Original by way of a delicious, pulsating, tribal rhythm which simply sets the words alight.
