Craig Peyton Group – Pyramid Love – (BBE Records)

Time for a touch of Jazz? Of course it is! Originally released way back in 1977 on Broken Records, and now re-released by BBE, one look at the band on the album’s back cover tells you all you need to know with free flowing hair, open shirts and sunshine in the background. The music paints a similar picture with the Disco-Funk of ‘Snow’ opening the show, while the long player ends on the cosmically charged ‘Painted Desert’ with the album taking in plenty of diverse styles in-between. The hard up-tempo funk of ‘Plupts 77’ sounds like one of the influences that went on to inform the funkier bands that came out of Punk/ New Wave a little latter, and the playful, ‘Fire & Ice’ takes its cues from Salsoul’s Vince Montana Jr. amid some fine, fiery Rock guitar. Anyway, if you fancy listening to something different tonight…
