It’s rare that a song’s lyrics strike a chord and make me sit up and really take notice – let alone hit repeat over… the recipient of 400+ tracks a week makes listening from start to finish a luxury and anything but a necessity in trying to keep up in this digital age. A marked departure from material you’d usually associate with the progressively deep and burbling electronica imprint, this beaty downtempo offering comes across like an oasis in the desert, despite the highly pessimistic subject matter of impending death. “Ignorance is bliss, but only ’cause we’re brought up believing that life is so much better then it actually is. Why would you lie to your kids for God’s sake? Tell them the truth from the start and spare them the heartache.” The 5-piece band from NW London combine elements of dance, hip-hop and down-tempo electronica into their productions, and are quickly filling the void left by the Streets. Their introspective lyrics are sharply drawn and touchingly sensitive layered upon lush downtempo beats that are overlaid with graceful strummed acoustic guitar and washes of synthetic strings. At last a record fully deserving airtime and your undivided attention.
