George Absent’s low-slung and totally captivating production sees the labels’ second vinyl EP score big on atmosphere. The mystery lies somewhere between the effortlessly funky bassline, nervous off-kilter voices and nagging synths, which may not sound all that inviting but work together in a weird and wonderful way. Two very impressive remixes come from Pete Oak and from Patrick Podage. The former adding more energy to the first-rate bass and percussion while augmenting the atmosphere with swirling heavenly voices. The latter’s ‘90’s Rework’ avoids any associated clichés with the genre to deliver a version that sets sparkling chords alongside a grinding intensity, which again works a treat.
