Hold up. This is a slow jam par excellence. Tensnake paved the way for the return of this 80’s reminiscent sleazy disco sound, now Le Youth are snapping at their heels with ‘Dance With Me’ an infectious, shameless pop rap confection. The vocals are edited and sliced at will with a cut throat razor, the bassline is toasted marshmallow, the bamboo keys remind me of Cortinas, shoulder pads, brick sized mobile phones and chrome and glass winebars but add Dominique Young Unique’s b-boy boogaloo rap breakdown and you have a Neneh Cherry reminscent hit that’s ripe and ready for popping. With the two thumbs up backing of Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw, Capital, Kiss and 1Xtra you know that day or night ‘Dance With Me’ is groovy enough to make the dead dance.
