This very desirable five part EP shows off the versatility of this Scottish producer, reinforcing the belief that Permanent Vacation have a bit of a find on their hands here. It’s very flexible music, working well in the context of deep house or techno, without ever fixing itself down to one particular genre. Because of that we can enjoy the sharp, clarinet-derived bass of the title track, with its nicely woozy intro, or indulge ourselves in the wash of sound that makes up the beatless ‘Western Electric’, the fifth and final track. In between there is some very satisfying nocturnal, four to the floor stuff , with the bassy ‘C020’, the cool ‘Fyne’ and ‘Horizon Effect’, which mixes up a number of disparate strands to create a reflective piece of night time deep house. There is an edginess here that means none of the music becomes too formulaic, keeping the listener on their toes. Definitely one to watch.
