Please welcome the launch of a new label from old school Chicago DJ Marc Davis, the bloke responsible for ‘Toot Toot Hey Beep Beep’ on Skint and ‘I Am The One’ on Flight Deck. In these days of slick laptop manouverings it’s nice to hear a track which sounds like it uses the late 80s old skool technique of loading a sample and plonking down the keyboard to bring it in wherever its thought fit. Marc should know about this, coming up during Ron Hardy’s heyday. ‘Trust In Me’ is dominated by two main samples from jazz chanteuse Dinah Washington and the late Richard Pryor, who get to bounce off each other over a stomping bass-groove and a riff which could be a distant relative to ‘Music Sounds Better With You’. The flip’s ‘Mechanical Melodie’ goes deep and rumbling with ringing bell-tones and a kind of Wild Pitch momentum.
