Swedish duo, Max Elto deliver a confident ep of crisp and varied electronica. The slow cinematic sweep of ‘City Lights’ provides a stunning backdrop to Alex’s piercing, almost ecclesiastical falsetto vocal. ‘Backyard Animals’ puts me in mind of ‘One Day Reckoning’ as the lead guitar strummed melody and tick tock tech house beats tease your feet. Glissando piano chords trickle like glacial eau de vie underneath ‘Daniel’s sparse but funky lyrical quiet storm. Its submarine radar tone punctuated bars, crunchy handclaps and duelling (sometimes over auto-tuned) vocals work it like a pole dancer paying for her education in sweat and one dollar bills. And you can’t go wrong with ‘Shadow In the Sun’ for stomping, strident big room drama. Each track has its own audience and overall it sounds like a very promising EDM album project.
