Let’s cut to the chase. This collaboration between Mexican producer Mateo Gonzalez’s alias and resident Los Angeles DJ Moderna casts its spell way beyond sensitive boundaries with Lumiere Noire 03’s startling opening gambit hitting where it hurts. A kind of aural, feverish intensity that sits somewhere in between dark House and Techno is, in this case, a most welcoming place to land. I’ve no idea who the ‘Dog Is Calling You’ referenced by the slightly sleazy vocal but can tell you the pulsating heavy-duty electronics are best received LOUD. ‘Papa en Roy’ follows with further adventures into the night this time with relatively conventional bass driving the pounding drums together with more of Moderna’s hot vocal delivery. Third track, ‘Asesino Psicótico’ returns to stranger territory with hints of Belgium New-Beat leaving indelible mark on the chugging, haunting synth notes, while the Die Wilde Jagd Remix of ‘Dog’ reworks it all into a sassier, syncopated and out-there version that again works wonders.
