Mr G – Remote Viewing EP – (Phoenix G)

Making sense out of an insane world Mr.G’s provocative rhythms remain resolutely uncompromising while (thankfully) completely ignoring fashion. Deceptively uncomplicated yet every note feels considered and purposeful this latest release via his own label sees alter ego Mango Boy deliver the message loud and clear. Opening with the twisted bliss of, ‘Newmerique’ which reveals itself through layers of sound and effortlessly sequences his trademark stabs together with suitably hissing hi-hats, and more, over the course of several minutes. Next is the personal tribute, ‘Mac (Daddy) R.I.P’ with casts a sombre set of keys over what feels like a more restrained groove, though proves to be no less powerful. Finally, the Mango Boys Red Eye Mix of, ‘Tollgate’ returns to familiar territory with uplifting vocal lines pitched to maximum effect over pounding drums and wired electronics.
