Newbie Nerdz – The One – (Atlus Project)

Newbie Nerdz are an emerging Italian outfit who have had their music licensed to labels such as Madtech , Gruuv and Get Physical. as you might expect from a duo with those sort of credentials, they’re the sort of guys who really make interesting house music. On their most recent outing, they switch their focus to the Altus Project label, itself a vehicle for top notch house and techno fare. Having tasted some early success with their first few releases, this one goes some way to compounding the label’s early promise. Simply put, we’re liking what we’re hearing here.

The actual release in question is called ‘The One’, and it sees the boys unleash a devastatingly effective slice of fully formed house music. Much like other Altus releases (we’re thinking of the recent Thee Cool Cats effort especially), this is a track that’s got a cheeky and playful side – and it’s sure to have you smiling as much as it is tapping your toes on the dancefloor.

The rest of the release is comprised of two remixes, the first of which arrives at us from Jey Kurmis. Kurmis is a producer on the rise himself, and his take on the track is one that is similarly indicative of his rising standing in the house music world. This one is all about the groove, as he takes the original and turns it into an altogether different beast. Last but not least we have Stefano Esposito, who takes the original’s ideas and brings them into a similarly new domain. Esposito, of course, is another italian making waves right now, and his remix is the final flourish on a release that’s thrilling throughout. Great work, Altus!
