Olerton – Trunk EP (Catch Recordings)

Catch is a label that always manages to unearth a producer or a production with something different going on. Far from just churning out average club beats, the UK label manages to excite and please with everything it does, and so it is that Olerton aka Harry Wolfman and Joel Wilson cook up a storm on this new five track EP, complete with a remix by Literon. Trunk Sewer is a steadfast, banking techno track with heavy drums and lo fi textures all making for a dark warehouse vibe. The Literon remix (Literon is Gerd in case you didn’t know, and this is his first ever remix) is more stripped back, Millsian in its minimalistic style and truly heady. Tampa Strata then toys with grainy textures and broken beats as well as pairing that darkness with some light emitting synths that add real soul. Prick Lane then gets even more experimental and dystopian with its hiccuping drums, swampy vibes and gurgling synths. Literon then pops up again for a final remix of Trunk Sewer that makes it even more dark and depraved sounding. This is clued up club music for serious heads and is the sort of thing that will be perfect in some Berlin back room.
