Rekids is another label which has had an amazing, benchmark-setting year, pushing the boundaries and totally unfettered by commercial requirements and even track length! Spencer Parker [previously heard on Cr2, Tsuba, Buzzin Fly and Satoshi Tomie’s SAW] transcends all barriers here to create a pair of amazing sonic journeys which take off through the hole in the elephants bottom then up and away into the cosmos. ‘The Improvised Minotaur’ rides a plink-plonk pulse shot with ‘Bug In The bass Bin’-style snares, building Wild Pitch style with interweaving beds of piano, guitar and effects, upping a gear with dramatic new chords midway. Widescreen and deadly. The B side’s ‘The Girls In Pink’ is faster and more upfront with minimal splashes, unexpected African elements, parping horn and strange bossa nova dream sequence. A name to watch.
