‘The Birth EP’ is as fine a precursor to Stephan Bodzin’s album ‘Powers of Ten’ as any melodic / abstract techno fan could hope for. Here ‘Birth’ is delivered to us in two guises: the rhythm of the Ja Mix courses through your veins carried forward by crisp snares and claps, it contracts and expands with synth pads and washes like the fast, whispered rush of blood to the head, then peace. Super Flu’s Early Contractions remix is like an ultrasound, its wonky, distorted kick flowing freely then surging forward on a steady heartbeat and fluttering effects. It’s a beautiful thing that’s equally at home on a sunset terrace or in a womblike back room.
