There seems to be some kind of a new funk revolution going on in the US which has returned to the music’s original live, organic feel. A.G.F.A. are behind the Funk Weapons and Super Hi-Fi labels, now popping up on red-hot Jalapeno with four affectionate homages to pure party funk. Lead track ‘SBC’ sees nucleus Frank and Rusty joined by Neighbour and Wax Romeo from Canada’s Homebreakin’ label, kicking up a bass-led groove topped with the old JB loop as first heard on ‘It Takes Two’ [Randy’s fave on My Name Is Earl!]. ‘Get The Pieces’ kicks up a funk storm around the Average White band’s classic ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ while ‘Pistachio Ride’ kicks up a mean boogie beast with clavinet to the fore. Finally, ‘On The Prowl’ brings in sexy female voices astride chunky bass. So much sexier than breakbeat!
