:brownstudy is Jason Hogans, who made an impact a few years back with his “Peter & The Rooster” EP on Planet E. This release finds Hogan exploring a meeting point between electronic beats, the darker influences of jazz and abstract hip-hop lyricism. Tracks like “Balance” and “Cereal Mumbling” sound like a meeting between George Clinton and Madlib somewhere in the outer stratosphere. Definitely not a bad thing.
