Asobi Seksu are a band causing a bit of a hoo-ha in New York at the moment. Fronted by Japanese singer Yuki, whose breathy & cute bilingual tones, rise above Asobi Seksu’s melting pot of pop punk psychedics. ‘Thursday’ builds in shimmering layers, with a touch of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, a pinch of Blondie and a large dose of Phil Spector. The end result is part 60’s, part 80’s, but mostly now. ‘Thursday’ is spangled melancholy at it’s best, and it’s as close as it gets to ‘The Wall Of Sound’.
