Right now, Soul Jazz never cease to amaze with the sheer ground-breaking quality of the records they’re hurling out. Here’s another one as South London duo Digital Mystikz lay down the template for what’s being called Dub Step. They’ve already appeared on Rephlex and their own DMZ label, but now get two discs over which to unfurl their exotic blend of fractured grooves, dub science and huge basslines. Truly out there with Eastern percussive elements, dub efx, bollywood strings and conscious declarations rub unearthly shoulders with the omnipresent rumble. The only thing I can remotely compare it to is early Scientist or Jah Wobble, but that’s only half the story. Go on, treat yourself to a genuinely new experience.
